Oriental Orthodox Churches: History and Spiritual Life

On completing the course the students will be able to:

understand main second level theological notions of the course “Oriental Orthodox Churches History and Spiritual Life”

  • be aware of the historical development of each Oriental tradition (Armenian, Coptic, Syriac etc.)
  • analyze and distinguish between the various Christian denominations in the East
  • understand the basic interactions between Christianism and other religions in the East throughout the centuries
  • gain an understanding of the contribution of the Oriental Orthodox tradition to Christianism in general.
  • critically evaluate the importance of the Oriental Christian heritage in culture
  • acquire knowledge regarding various aspects of the spiritual life of Oriental tradition

develop a critical awareness of the importance of the Ecumenical dialogue between the Eastern Orthodox and the Oriental Orthodox churches
