Institutions of the Macedonian Kingdom

The course aims to familiarize students with the economic, social and political organisation of the Macedonian kingdom. The course syllabus will enable the comprehension of the fundamental principles of the organisation of the ancient Greek states, and especially that of Macedonia, which are significantly different from those of the modern states in the following aspects: public finance, the coexistence of royal and political economy; at social level, the different association (compared with the cities of Southern Greece) of civil and political rights concerning gender, age, financial status and citizenship; at political level, the coexistence and the distribution of power between the nation and the city, the king and the elected representatives.
